Upcoming Future Retreats (East and West): Date to be announced.
The Still Point Exchange: An invitation-only gathering where presence is offered, not taught, and consciousness is explored as a shared field.
A One-Day Invitational Consciousness Laboratory
What happens when a room is formed entirely of people willing to give, rather than receive?
Core Intention: The Still Point Exchange is designed to raise the quality of awareness in a shared space and to observe how coherent attention affects individuals, the room, and beyond the room.
This one-day, invitation-only gathering is devoted to shared awareness practice. It is not a retreat for learning techniques or receiving teachings. It is an experiment in coherence, where each participant arrives as a contributor, offering one hour of lived practice rooted in stillness, presence, inquiry, or attention.
There is no cost, no hierarchy, and no prescribed worldview.
Spiritual, scientific, artistic, somatic, contemplative, and silent practices coexist, without debate, synthesis, or explanation. Each offering stands on its own, followed by silence rather than discussion, allowing depth to settle without interruption.
The day unfolds with shared stillness, a sequence of uninterrupted offerings, generous pauses for integration, and a closing circle of brief acknowledgments, nothing more, nothing less. No recordings. No promotion. No authority. Only responsibility, humility, and direct experience.
It is about observing what happens when attention is held carefully, collectively, and without an agenda.
The Still Point Exchange is for those curious about presence as a relational field, and about what may quietly emerge when many forms of awareness are trusted to share the same room.
We are seeking extremely accomplished and diverse practitioners to participate in this shared experiential experiment.

Internal Retreat
Retreat Theme: Chop Wood, Carry Water, Becoming a Monk in the World
At Urban Healing Temple, we believe deep transformation doesn’t come from escaping your life; it comes from waking up within it.
Our upcoming retreat is rooted in the ancient Zen teaching:
“Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water.”
This simple phrase holds profound wisdom: even after great insight, the tasks of daily life remain. But how we meet those tasks, with presence, intention, and humility, is where the real shift happens.
What Does It Mean to Be a Monk in the World?
You don’t need a robe or a monastery to live a spiritual life.
You don’t have to leave the world, but you can learn to move through it differently.
This retreat will examine ways to practice monastic living within everyday life:
-
Rooted in discipline, without rigidity
-
Committed to inner stillness, even in motion
-
Devoted to the present, without needing escape
-
Embracing simplicity, without abandoning your responsibilities
Wake up. Chop wood. Carry water. Be the monk in your own life.
The Practice includes:
Throughout the retreat, we’ll guide you through experiences designed to help you:
-
Develop presence in the mundane
-
Reconnect with daily rhythm and ritual
-
Embrace the discipline of simplicity
-
Carry inner stillness into a busy world
-
Cultivate quiet strength through consistency
This is not about doing more; it’s about doing less, with more intention.
One breath. One step. One task at a time.
The Bigger Picture
This retreat is part of a larger vision.
Urban Healing Temple is currently engaged in:
-
Hosting retreats that awaken grounded spiritual practice
-
Producing UHTM (Urban Healing Temple Method) to serve under-resourced communities
-
Preparing research proposals focused on Healing Intergenerational Trauma
Through all this work, our intention remains the same:
To create spaces where people can grow, reconnect, and return to what’s real, both for themselves and for the collective.
We’re honored to walk this path with you.
Let’s wake up together.
Chop wood. Carry water. Be the monk in the world.
